                               Agnigarh : A Historical site.

 Introduction
     Assam, named as pragjyutish or kamrup in ancient time,has been famous for her natural beauty. In this holy place different types of temples,monasteries , namghars,satras,biharas and worshiping place belonging to the tribal people of the land are scattered .One such place is the historic Agnigarh,located at Tezpur. In the Hindu mythology, it is the site of the fortress which is built by the Banasura to keep his daughter Usha in isolation.The name itself is derived from the words 'Agni' (means fire) and 'garh (means fortress or wall) in  Sanskrit.
     The study has been carried out to understand about the story behind the construction of this legendary fortress from perspective .Secondly, was there any cultural confrontation between so called Aryans and Non Aryans?
     This is an exploratory study which depends on various secondary sources like books,journal,newspaper ,.
     It will be bravely explained in the next articles........

Bana         B ana  also known as Banasura ,in Hindu mythology, was a thousand armed asura king and was the son of Bali. Banasura in believed to have ruled the present day central Assam with his capital at Sonitpur. According to the legend, Banasura was a kirata king . He used to worship Rasaliongam, which was given by Vishwakarma on instruction from Vishnu . The Legend :        The northern bank of Brahmaputra is full of history,legends and mysteries .Here lies a beautiful city of Tezpur ( old name is Sonitpu r) which is known as ' City of eternal romance '.The history of Tezpur is very old.Earlier it was known by different names,such as Sonitpur ,Parapur,Banpur,Harupaswer,Usha nagar etc. As the suggests ,agnigarh was surrounded by fire at all times ,  in order to prevent anyone from entering or exiting the fortress without permission .
